Back with the second installment of the British public information films and as usual, the old ones are the best. First up one from the 80's with the classic Don't Talk to Strangers message. I particularly like the lecherous voice of the crocodile and the mysterious adults legs lurking in the background.
As a child I was always a bit scared of escalators. Couldn't quite put my finger on why... Well, THIS IS WHY!!!!!!!!!!
Probably one of the most famous PIF's, this segment of Protect & Survive details what you should do in the aftermath of a nuclear attack. And in particular, what you should do with any dead bodies you might have lying around. Get that creepy music!
Be good, kids!
Eeek! OMG, that's seriously scary stuff. :)
ReplyDeleteIf you like this sort of thing - and something tells me you do! - check out an album called Other Channels by The Advisory Circle. He's taken loads of samples from these old ads and swirled them together with slightly creepy ambient music to delightfully ear-catching effect...
ReplyDeleteThe record label Ghost Box specialise in this sort of thing.
Great blog you got here.
:o)
Thanks guys! Glad you're scared, Luisa! Thanks a lot, James! I should look that up.
ReplyDeleteThese are scary. *And* true. My sister actually has a scar on her finger where she tripped up on the escalator and got it caught in some moving metal parts. She like, bled all over the floor in Allders.
ReplyDelete"that kid is back on the escalator!"
ReplyDeletehaha, rmember that scene from Mallrats. so funny.
